Birthday Girl

Marnie has reached the age to have her ears pierced. We took her to Claire's and she chose her earrings. She was a great patient.

Quick punch and done!

The Pink Bathroom

It's time to remodel the pink bathroom. We've got a pink sink, pink toilet and pink bathtub to replace. This means we are at Home Depot a lot.

You have to love a hexie sink. Well, maybe not. The tiny tile on the floor is starting to come up. And the privacy half wall is not so secure. It's time to gut the whole thing.

Marnie is helping us tonight. She has good design ideas and doesn't mind spending a nice Friday night at Home Depot.

Chamber Choir

The St. Cecilia Chamber Choir performance happens every year as a fund raiser. Since it's early in the school year, many of these songs are new to the choir. Some members are new as well. The acoustics of the chapel are lovely and it is always a delight to see. I perform with the Women's Choir and sometimes a song or two for Chamber.

Dacia is so excited for Marnie to be there.

Vintage Spin

One of my favorite patterns by Kathy Doughty is Vintage Spin. Most quilts I resist making more than once. But this one is intoxicating. The crazier the fabric, the better.

The first step is to create a circle with two fabrics. You must have an 18 degree wedge ruler to work with. Once you have a circle complete you have to cut it into a square.

The higher the contrast, the better.

I used black and white prints for my centers. Use any applique technique that you prefer.

Studio C

The whole family is enjoying Education Week at BYU. While wandering on the north part of campus, I ran into the Studio C offices and stage. Katie loved them when they were Divine Comedy, and I love watching them now.

I was excited to see Jason Gray walking by and waved to him. He offered to come down and take a picture with me, but I could see he was busy. Thanks for the laughs!

Wild Waves

We spent a fantastic day at Wild Waves. I love the opportunity to swim all day. The slides and rides were a blast. But it is exhausting and when we were driving home I decided I was famished too. We stopped by Cafe Rio and refueled. Lynnwood is where our old home is so I know the area well, and there was still another hour to get home on Camano Island. Pork Barbacoa Ensalada for me!

Don't forget your leftovers.

Honeysuckle and Wisteria

I haven't discovered the reason for my love of invasive plants. There is something enthusiastic about them. No stopping. Wrapping their tendrils around whatever is closest. When I was a child, my mom planted a wisteria beneath our deck and I remember the incredible fragrance. I had to do the same.

The problem is that wisteria will tear down this deck if I let it. And I planted it!
The honeysuckle also smells delicious. When I was a little girl I would pull the stigmas out and suck on them for fun.

This also requires cutting back every few years or that poor trellis will be toast.

SLC HMQS

Another quilt show? Well, yes. This one is for machine quilters, so it's up my alley. I apologize that many of these pictures aren't full size. I was interested in the quilting designs used. I enjoyed a class with Claudia Pfeil from Germany. We had a longarm for each of us during class and she brought Swiss chocolate to keep us happy. She won a blue ribbon as well for this quilt.

Trapunto, how I love thee.

Handkerchief Corners

I was quite impressed with a client quilt that I was working on this week. It's a Kaffe Fassett quilt named Handkerchief Corners. Using Kaffe Wovens, you match stripes and sew Y-seams. This is incredibly difficult, yet these are all done perfectly. Well done!

Swimming at Wenberg

We love to head over to Wenberg County Park to swim. The water is warmer and there are picnic benches and grass. Lake Goodwin is quite large and back in the day we've ridden boats here, but the swimming area is safely roped off. On this day we had the whole park to ourselves. Mostly because I told the kids we were skipping school to enjoy the sun.

Calvin Leaves for College

It's time for Calvin to return to Rexburg for the next term. It's been fun having him here during the break. Safe travels!
