Chamber Choir Scores Big

We had the best time going to Choir competition this year at Marysville/Pilchuck. The Women's Choir and Chamber Choir made some beautiful music and were well-rewarded. The adjudicator told them to be grateful for the amazing group they had.
Their scores were perfect from all four judges.

Stratavarious

When it comes to strata, I love to make it and use it. This quilt is from a quilt book called Stratavarious Quilts. Once you create strata, you can cut them into pieces and use them any way you like. Color theory works hard here. Can you name the scheme?

Helping Hands

The Dark Lord Chuckles, the Silly Kitty is helping me today. I think it's just nice to have a friend nearby.

Pike Place Market Tour

We had a great field trip with the fourth graders to Seattle. Our first stop was the Underground Tour, which is a fascinating look at early Seattle. Since the city was founded by folks from Illinois and Iowa, they didn't take into account the tides coming in twice a day. So after the fire of 1898, the whole town was rebuilt 12' higher. There are remains of the buildings and sidewalks still at the original height. The following pictures show glass (the manganese turned purple) that let filtered light into the sidewalks below. This is the same glass grate, from above, and underneath.

Then we hit Pike Place and found the gum wall! The theater originally disallowed gum from being chewed in the house, so people began placing it on the wall outside. This is actually cleaned once a year!
