Snow Arrives

The kids worked hard with the little amount of snow we had to create a friend.

Rufus is unnerved by the newcomer.

Transformed into a snow girl!

Calvin's Birthday

Howard Calvin is 20 already!

We invited the missionaries to come celebrate since he will be one in 3 weeks!

We have no idea what he wished for, but it was probably cake and ice cream.

Collage Quilts

Lorraine inspects one of my collage trees. These are totally fused. The process is very simple:
1. Fuse yards of hand-dyed fabrics.
2. Cut random one-inch squares.
3. Fuse onto a background (batting or useless fabric).

This piece is blank, but has circles on it now. I just need to take an updated picture.

This one makes use of complimentary colors.

Learning about positive/negative images has helped me develop this tree image.

Although this isn't a true Japanese Notan, it still is effective. I haven't been able to work in true symmetry.

January Snowstorm

It is magical. For a little while. And then I want to get out.

I find my Sorels and go marching out.

Rufus is so excited. It's easier to spot birds and squirrels in the snow.

The view down East Camano Dr. I don't think our mail will be delivered today.

Better get more wood on the fire.

New Skirt

After searching forever for a cute skirt for Marnie, I decided to just make one! Marnie picked out the fabric and it took just 2 hours to make. The next one may be quicker.

Rufus

We have an addition! He is Rufus and comes from the local shelter. He moves so quickly that it is a miracle that I even caught this picture. His perfect personality makes us so happy!

Marnie Concert

Marnie and Grace are so talented. They are both great students in math and music. We enjoyed a Stanwood Middle School band concert tonight where they both performed.

Marnie plays the clarinet in 7th grade Intermediate Band. I think she is one who will continue to play through high school.

Temple Trip

We enjoyed a quick trip to Rexburg to see Calvin. Our trip's purpose was to take Calvin through the Rexburg Temple.

The sun was shining!

When we entered the temple, we were shocked to see Braden Anderson waiting for us. He had seen Calvin's name on the schedule and stayed to be his escort. What a sweet man he is.

We caught up with Matt Andelin as well. Teaching seminary really has helped me get to know these young men.

When the temple recorder came to collect us, I noticed his name tag said Br. Sevy. I asked if he was from Escondido and a stunned look crossed his face. I told him I was Kristi McKay. He said, "Don't just sit there. Stand up and give me a hug!" We were able to catch up with his family and mine.

We were lucky to have The Willards come up from Salt Lake for a beautiful day.

Trip to Rexburg

Paul and I went on an awesome trip this weekend. Calvin was performing in a choir concert at BYU-I in Rexburg, Idaho. He is a Music Ed/Vocal major and in Collegiate Singers. The first impressive thing I saw was the organ. Apparently, it is the second largest the church owns (next to the Conference Center).

Here is a shot of the pipes.

And if you look closely at the top, you see these awesome horns!

Here are the boys after the concert. Then we drove to see the Rexburg Temple to see it lit up.

My favorite part was the Wheat windows, which made me think of Frank Lloyd Wright.

Frazier's Senior Picture

We ran out into the front yard to take Frazier's senior picture! He's certainly my tallest so far, and super easy-going. A gentle giant.

Computer Restored!

I am happy to report that Paul has rebuilt the computer after an unfortunate ballet incident. Marnie was practicing some moves in front of YouTube when she kicked a cup of punch into the CPU, frying the motherboard.

This cute little wood block project at my entry is an opportunity for the kids to spell anything they can think of with these six letters.
